Q2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

Our combination of products, the video, digipak and website work well together as a promotional package as it is very clear the band that they are trying to advertise, this is simply done by featuring the name of the band and the music they have created.

We have created them in a way that allows us to feature a key theme throughout them; this means that people who view it will have an instant visual connection to the band. Each element promotes the band in different ways, as it feeds the needs of the fans. The video allows the fans to get a feel of the band’s energy and what they look like; the video will also be used to show off their most popular song. This method will also be done before an album is released to create hype about the music before it comes out; this helps to create album sales.

The digipak allows the band to promote themselves and songs they have written and also allows them to make it more personal with a biography or picture booklet inside, making the fans to feel more connected to the band, you could also use the booklet to promote merchandise that is on their band site, creating subtle links between products entices people to view the other aspects.

The website helps the band to promote all their products in one place and also update people on what they are doing, the more they update this the more fans will check it to see what they are up to, this can helps to promote and upcoming album or video.

We have tried to merge our three elements to each feature using images and texts to help create synergy between them, this makes it easier for people to get a visual image and link it to the band, for example the text we used on our website was very effective for our genre, so we have chosen to use it again on our album, this links the two together by a bold and stylistic title. We have also used visual imagery on our album by using photos of the band we took on our location of filming as the backgrounds on our digipak, this helps link the band/music to the video, helping promote both aspects as one.

All of our products will be exhibited using traditional methods, such as Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, magazines and television. This is because this method is still able to reach a large amount of our targeted audience and will help us to promote the band as much as possible, thus creating a bigger buzz about the band and in turn helps the band to grow in popularity.

Our music video will be exhibited on music channels, allowing people who listen to a heavy genre of music to watch them, the two channels that offer more of that genre are ‘Kerrang! TV’ and ‘Scuzz’, these have both promoted heavier bands so we feel this would hit the right target market.

We would upload the video to Youtube, we would have it on our band channel and also there are channels such as ‘BlankTV’ that allow upcoming bands to promote their music, channels such as this allow bands to be viewed by a much larger community of fans of the same genre.

Youtube also allows you to be able to interlink the video to sites such as Facebook and Twitter, allowing the fans to view it in that way, thus making Youtube a very important source to have our video on.

Our digipak can be promoted through all the previous sites, such as Facebook, Twitter and the description section of the video on Youtube, this makes it very easy for people to access the album, we will also use magazines to promote our upcoming album release, magazines such as Kerrang! would suit our genre the best as they tend to stick to a more heavier side of music. The advantages of using a magazine such as Kerrang! is that they have such a large fan base, it would really help to promote our digipak to the right target audience. We could also use record stores such as HMV to sell and promote our album, although as technology has grown, more people are turning to getting music as digital downloads, this is a disadvantage as you may lose money in promotion.

Our website will have to be promoted using the previous websites also, through Facebook on our band info and also through the use of merchandise promotion on our page as well, we can also use Twitter and Youtube. Furthermore we can use our digipak to promote the merchandise with the pullout which will push people to want to view our website, all very traditional methods of promotion, especially for hardcore bands as they do not get as publicised as pop artists for example.
